Sailing around in Banderas bay

I've been pretty lazy lately, and haven't updated much in too long.  So here's a tidbit.

This video was on a practice race up to Punta mita and back.  I still don't have my mainsail and jib fixed, and its been a long time, so on Monday I got them from the loft where they had been sitting and took them to another loft, where I think they will get done faster.  I hope.  So in the mean time I have my staysail, my a2 (the whomper, a big white spinnaker) and the a5 blue and yellow spinnaker.

But then a week ago I was given two big jibs, and so I put one of those up as a mainsail

In this photo you can see its a jib.  Anyway, with that as my mainsail I can go upwind pretty well, so I was trying it out.  I made it to mita in under 2 hours, which is a velocity made good of 5 kts, but I was tacking and so going further, but at about 7 kts.

Then I turned and put up the big whomper and started going 10-12 kts all the way back.  It took about an hour.

I did put a small tear in my a5, and I just sewed that up, but I gotta figure out a way to keep my sails healthy.  And I think I want a second a2.  It's such a fun sail.

Anyways, it's springtime, the whales are thinking about heading north, and I am too, but it'll be a little while yet.  I hope to do another trip somewhere around here before I go to work too.  Maybe to socorro.?

The air is warming up a bit, and the water will soon get clear and warm and then it will be summer!

And here's an iguana I met a few days ago...
