I went back to Yelapa. I hadn't been for a year, but a bunch of other boats were going, sort of like a race, so I joined in.
I
really like the birds that live over there, and because of the river,
there is fresh water to walk around in and swim in. So I did a river
walk and went up to a waterfall.
On
the way back there was a woodpecker in the tree. I saw one of these
last year with Abe and Katrina, in San Blas, but this woodpecker is
really neat looking, and not in the bird book I have.
There
was also this kind of nut that grows up there, and last year my dad and
I were finding a lot of the shells, and wondering what they came from.
This is a picture of the fruiting body.

I think that is an imperial woodpecker, similar to a pileated but lives in Mexico and has the spectacular white markings on its back. Thanks for the pictures, I loved Yelapa,
Last year we saw a Lineated Woodpecker in San Blas. The Imperial Woodpecker looks very similar but is larger (the world's largest) and has white on its face. I believe this is a female Pale-billed Woodpecker.
I am not sure about the tree seedpod. Maybe a Ceiba sp. (Kapok)
As usual, brother Abraham is right...
Danny and I went there on his birthday a couple years ago. It's such a beautiful place. Thanks for the photos.
